Our Grant Writing Consultants Answer Your Frequently Asked Questions
Q. Is there grant money to start a business?
A. Government and foundation funded grants are usually targeted for small businesses, non-profit organizations, education agencies, public organizations, and high tech - research oriented businesses, with few exceptions. There are also business grant funds that provide jobs (and job training) for disadvantaged and/or disabled workers; that are located in high poverty areas that need more jobs or that provide certain services in these areas (such as child care or after school programs); or for businesses that partner with a non-profit organization in a joint effort to provide community-focused related programs and services.
Q. If I qualify to apply to a foundation, does that mean all I have to do is send in an application?
A. No. There is much more to the process in receiving grant funding. Business plans, foundation research, request for proposals and constant verbal contact with administrators are some of many things that could be requested for application.
Q. After I receive my qualification results, what are my next steps?
A. Depending on the amount of foundations you qualify for we recommend different course of action. If you are highly qualified, we suggest outsourcing all or most work out to a grant writer. The grant writing & small business grant process is extremely important to your success in securing a grant. Many people fail because they don't invest the time to acquire the knowledge to write a successful grant proposal.
Q. Can I just pay for a grant writing services through an awarded grant?
A. No. Funders do not allow for grant money to be used to pay for services rendered prior to an award. Therefore, legitimate grant writing firms will not place their clients at risk of fraud by charging for grant writing - contingent upon a grant being funded.
